Farm and Environment
The cheese factory is located at the Urpina farm, a rural estate in Sant Salvador de Guardiola, in the Bages region. Aware of this privilege, we grow in harmony with the territory, respecting the spaces and rhythms of the surrounding landscape.
We are privileged to have our own herd of 300 goats on the farm. The milk used to make our goat cheeses comes, in part, from this herd. The goats on the Urpina farm are Murcian-Granadine, a breed that is characterised by its high fat and protein content, providing a high yield for cheese production. Their enormous genetic value is recognised in the livestock world, where they are in third place in CAPRIGRAN’s ranking, the National Association of Murciano-Granadina goat breeders.

At Formatges Muntanyola we look for ways to be self-sufficient and sustainable.
Biomass boiler and solar panels
As part of our constant drive to reduce our ecological impact, we have installed a biomass boiler that services the cheese factory and the farm’s barn, and we have installed solar energy in all the farm’s buildings.
These systems allow us to supply renewable energy sources to the cheese factory, the farm and throughout the Urpina estate.
